Can You Say "Overwhelm"?

Okay, okay, okay. It has been forever since I made an entry. And isn't it funny that I decide to write an entry when my life is so all consumingly (is that a word?) busy? First, the really crappy news. Something we were all praying would never happened, did happen. Marilee fell and broke her hip. The good news is she had surgery yesterday and seems to be tolerating all this pretty well. She was out of bed today working with a physical therapist. She may need a transfusion, but I don't know if that is settled yet. Osteoporosis is an awful thing. So to everyone in blogland: TAKE YOUR CALCIUM!. This makes three major surgeries/recoveries in less than a year for my sweet in-laws. I think they (and we) need a break. Second, I am just getting over the worst head cold of my life. The sinus headaches were horrible - there isn't enough Advil in the world. I still can't taste anything, but that doesn't stop me from eating (a whole 'nother issue). Colds are absolutely the grossest thing. Third, I am co-chairing the senior grad nite for Hayden's class and spending all my free time begging other parents to help. Fourth, fifth, sixth - just the normal stuff that keeps us so busy and semi-insane, blah, blah, blah, yadda, yadda, yadda.

On a happier note, we took the boys and a couple of their friends to Coronado Island for a couple of days this weekend. It was so nice to tell the guys to "go have fun" and not have to worry about them until the next meal time. Hayden and Eric spent time at the beach, playing football in front of a row of sunbathing beauties (like that's not totally obvious), and going to the MCRD (that would be the Marine Corp Recruiting Depot, UGH!). Eric is going into the Marine Reserves after graduation and my boys think this is so cool. I admire Eric for his honor and desire to defend our country, but to think about my boys at a front line somewhere? No way! Yes - I am a totally selfish mother. This is one time when I am happy Hayden has asthma - dang straight.

Connor and Jaxon rode their bikes around, hung out at the beach, checked out the skate/surf shops, and hung out at the Hotel Del (that's where we stayed, yeah right, I wish!)

Notice the boys' new haircuts. Hellooooo! Connor looks like he's 18 (he's only 14 1/2). Not cool! Some shop lady said she would make up the difference when he ran short a few cents for his USMC shirt because he was a Marine. Argh! I can hardly wait for them to grow it out again. They both have this fascination with all things military. Scott and I are two of the biggest pacifists around, so go figure. I also reminded them they look like skin heads. Double Yuk! I am proud to say that my boys are anything but. Our house looks like the U.N. most of the time with their culturally-diverse friends. Good for them! Maybe we did a few things right as parents.

Except for the broken hip...sounds like a fun weekend for you!

Connor looks so grown up...like I told you on the phone...build a big fence around that one to keep the girls away! Loving the short, non-shaggy look...even if he does look like a Marine.

I still can't believe Hayden is a senior. I can't be that old...those are great shots of your boys. Both of them so handsome...you have good reason to be proud and show them off.

Did you realize that that was your last Spring Break with Hayden? Don't want to freak you out or anything...but...

I am so glad your back to blogging--but it definitely does sound like you had more then enough to keep yourself busy in the meantime.

I hope your in-laws are doing better and that you all get a little while to breath.

Glad you're back! Looks like a great time at Coronado (except for the possible enlistment!). Your boys are like grown ups now. I still remember Hayden as the little baby asleep in the car! And Connor as just a ginormous baby! Now they are big manly men with no hair ;) How'd that happen?
